There are just a few days left before the October 1 kickoff of Santa Cruz County’s inaugural restaurant week. Eight days of great eating at the best restaurants here for only $25 per person. With three courses — appetizer, entrée and dessert — at a price like this, Santa Cruzans will be eating better than they ever could before.

Restaurants will be extra busy, so please call as early as possible to make a reservation. You don’t want to be disappointed when your favorite restaurant fills up on the night you wanted to sample their Restaurant Week menu.

And don’t forget to tip. Service personnel will be working extra hard this week, and gratuity, beverage and California sales tax are not included.

With two weeks to go now, Santa Cruz’s first restaurant week is just around the corner. At just $25 for a three course dinner, we’re hoping that many Santa Cruzans will take advantage of this opportunity to try new restaurants and reacquaint themselves with old favorites. Some chefs will be creating special dishes just for Restaurant Week. It will be tasty!

Please help us let everyone know about Santa Cruz Restaurant Week. It’s important to support local businesses during a recession, and dining out en masse on the cheap is a great social/community experience/local economy booster as well.

Invite your friends and have a fun night out. Email links to this website and our Twitter and Facebook pages. Post something to your blog or website. If you need graphics, email us: info at svrw.org.

Please call ahead to reserve a table. We recommend reservations. Restaurants will be busier than usual, so an advance reservation ensures a spot and helps restaurateurs schedule adequate staff and order enough food.

Bon appetit!

Santa Cruz Restaurant Week is the old champagne-on-a-beer budget way to enjoy fine dining at an great price. In the economy of 2009, we can all use a break, and fixed price dining at the top restaurants in town is a nice quality of life perk in a recession. The flip side of it is that it helps restaurants and the local economy too. With greater numbers of diners choosing from a fixed menu, restaurants see bigger sales and can manage their costs. So it works out for everybody.

Restaurants will offer three options for each course. The three courses are appetizer, entree and dessert. The $25 cost does not include beverage, tax or gratuity.

We’ll be posting the menus online here as they come in, so check back.

Due to the strong response to the initial call for participants, Santa Cruz Restaurant Week has extended its deadline to allow more restaurants to participate.

The Inaugural Santa Cruz Restaurant Week begins October 1, 2009. The promotion will last eight days. Its goal is to showcase Santa Cruz County as a dining destination and bring diners into local restaurants to enjoy a special menu of culinary creations.

Santa Cruz Restaurant Week is an excellent opportunity for restaurants to attract new customers—and invite current customers to return. Each participating restaurant will contribute three $50 dining gift certificates. These will be used for drawings and giveaways to gain media exposure, and to reward volunteers who are helping launch this event.

To participate in Santa Cruz Restaurant Week, please complete and return a Registration Form by September 15. Call Maree Thurston at 831.457.9000 for more information.

Please reference “SCRW” in the subject line of your email. We’ll send them to you within a day so it can sit in your inbox or on your desk for a week until you get time to read it. We know you’re busy. Our team will try to give you a reminder call and help you fill out the forms, which take all of 7 minutes to complete. We know some of you will require high levels of service and multiple visits, just like the guy at the bar who orders for a group and adds to the drink order each time the bartender slides a drink his way. If you are well organized and can handle the process yourself, we’ll think of a nice way to thank you.

We know what you’re thinking since that’s the way your mind works. You can pronounce it however you want since we live in a free country. But the official pronunciation of the abbreviated form of our local restaurant week’s name is: ess see are dubya. Like this: S.C.R.W. Any other pronunciations are not officially recognized. Got that?
